Additional Resources

Education Well-being service: Browze the series of helpful videos and webinars from the Education Well-being service, part of South West London and St George's Hospital NHS Mental Health Trust. The Service works with school communities across Wandsworth, Merton, Sutton and Richmond; supporting children, young people, parents/carers and educational staff to support the Mental Health and Well-being of our Children and Young People.

Merton Safeguarding Children Partnership: The Merton Safeguarding Children Partnership (MSCP) works together to agree how local child protection services are carried out, and offers valuable guidance and support for children and parents/carers.

Andrew Hampton, Girls on Board: An approach to help parents support their daughters through friendship issues. 'His book When Girls Fall Out, When Girls Fall Out' is a fresh and frank look at parenting, told from the daughters’ point of view.

Daniel Spargo Foundation: A drug and alcohol education charity that aims to support young people to make safe choices about drugs and alcohol and reduce harm. We do this through increasing understanding of the effects and risks, and helping to develop life skills and resilience. The Foundation was set up in January 2014 by Tim and Fiona Spargo-Mabbs in response to the death of their 16-year-old son Daniel having taken ecstasy. If you missed or would like to revisit their 2025 parent presentation you can watch it here

Dr Lisa Damour: Recognized as a thought-leader, Dr Damour has written numerous best-selling and super valuable parenting books, including the New York Times bestseller 'Untangled', and co-hosts her award winning ‘Ask Lisa’ podcast. In addition, her website hosts an expansive suite of free (some are linked below) and paid for resources.

Sarah Ockwell-Smith is a well known parenting expert and popular childcare author who writes about the psychology and science of parenting. Sarah has authored 16 books which have sold over half a million copies including 'Between' for parents/carers of children aged 8-13, 'How to be a calm parent' and ‘How to Raise a Teen‘. Coming later in 2025 is 'Raising Attention', a guide for parents and carers of children with ADHD and explosive behaviour.

Michelle Icard: 'Fourteen Talks by Age Fourteen' guides readers through the fourteen essential conversations parents need to have with their kids before they start high school (Y9+). Her first book, Middle School Makeover: Improving the Way You and Your Child Experience the Middle School Years (Y5+), is a primer for the social and emotional changes parents and kids navigate during the tween and early teen years.

Dr. Cara Natterson: Cara is a paediatrician, consultant, and a New York Times bestselling author of puberty and parenting books. In addition, she runs 'The Puberty Portal' (by and for tweens and teens) and hosts the ‘This is so awkward’ Podcast (for parents/carers).

Vaping

Adolescence (up to mid-20s) is a critical period for brain development and exposure to nicotine and other harmful drugs and chemicals can have long-term health consequences, impacting memory, attention, and learning. Even though it is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to buy/use vapes, according to the 2023 Response to Youth Vaping report from the Children’s Commissioner, Dame Rachel de Souza, the number of children and young people doing so is increasing at an alarming rate. It is becoming an epidemic. It is clearer than ever before that vaping is not safe, healthy, or wise and we don’t want our kids to be doing it. The Report also shares insight into the impact of vaping on schools and the education of our children.

To support the workshops we host for our students, our parent/carer communication includes a summary of the available research and recommended resources for parents/carers. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s Head of Year.
