The importance of nutrition, sleep and healthy screen time as part of exam preparation and performance.
These articles below discuss the importance of hydration, a healthy diet, screen time and sleep as part of exam preparation and performance and in maintaining energy levels, concentration, memory retention. You'll also find some slow-release carbohydrate and protein breakfast ideas and some healthy snack ideas to pack on exam days (remember, no nuts at school however they do make an excellent snack for home for those that can eat them).
It is also important to be mindful of energy drink consumption. A single energy drink can contain approx. double the recommended daily maximum of caffeine. Ideally, caffeine should not form part of your regular diet. These drinks can lead to spikes and crashes in energy levels, mood swings, and disrupted sleep: all of which are unhelpful, especially during exam periods.
Also, sleep and healthy screen time are hugely important for learning as well as concentration and brain processing. Restricting sleep and spending too much time on phones/online has been shown to impair athletic and cognitive performance and increase anxiety.
We encourage you to explore these materials with your child and discuss ways to ensure good nutrition and sleep are incorporated into their daily routine. Thank you for your support - open communication and a supportive home environment can significantly alleviate exam-related stress.
