Black History Month 2024

Black History Month 2024 launched this week with student-led assemblies.

Chisom, Naomi, Stephanie, Anjardie, Toni and Silvia in Year 11 planned and delivered assemblies to all year groups on the theme ‘Black and Proud’. The students reflected on what it means to be a young, black woman today, and also discussed how important their culture and identity is to them. The assemblies were centered around the scripture and ended with a prayer for equality.

BHM will be celebrated throughout the month of October around the school, and in lessons, and there are several competitions running. There is an inter-house competition that every student is competing in with their form, and there are two individual competitions…

The Art Department competition is to create a piece of art that is inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat’s work. Any medium can be used for this, and the deadline is Friday 25th October (entries submitted to Mr Fitzgerald, Head of Art).
The second competition is to design a logo for BHM which can be used year after year and incorporates the school badge. The deadline for that is Wednesday 23rd October, entries submitted to Ms Beale, Head of Humanities.

Both individual competitions have special prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place so get your entries in!
