On Thursday, 27th March, students from Ursuline High School, accompanied by the school Chaplain, attended a mass to celebrate the life of St Oscar Romero at St George’s Cathedral, marking the 45th anniversary of his assassination in which he was killed for speaking out against injustice, oppression, and violence during El Salvador’s civil unrest.
Presided over by Archbishop John Wilson, the Mass was a powerful reminder of St Oscar Romero’s legacy of faith, justice, and standing in solidarity with the poor and marginalised. During the celebration, schools that had achieved Participator Level or Developer Level in the Oscar Romero Award were presented with their certificates by the Archbishop. It was an inspiring experience for all students, deepening their understanding of Romero’s call to serve others and live out the Gospel in action. The day left us all encouraged to continue working for justice, knowing that small acts of love, accompanied with courage, can truly transform the world.
