Model United Nations!

"I've enjoyed the learning about the structure of the UN and about life at LSE everyone is so engaging and friendly thats what kept the atmosphere especially it being online so alive."

The London School of Economics ran a Model United Nations Conference online on 26-28 February in which 20 of our year 12s participated (we were the largest cohort at the conference!).

The MUN gives students the chance to learn about the United Nations and to understand how different countries will see particular issues and how committee meetings work to allow countries to come to agreements about some of the key issues of our time. The students were each made a delegate for a different country and then put on a committee to look at a certain topic (eg they might be the representative for Pakistan on a committee with other delegates looking at the human rights implications of the right to education and movement in the Covid era). They prepared for the conference by meeting together weekly with one of the LSE MUN leaders from December up to the conference.

The conference focused on

EVALUATING THE EVOLVING NATURE OF EMERGING CRISES AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS ON GLOBAL GOVERNANCE.

The students really enjoyed the experience and gave very positive feedback.
Here is some of what they had to say:

"I thought this was an amazing opportunity and I have really enjoyed it overall."

"I learnt to understand and comprehend other standpoints on an issue, and formulating a response."

"I really enjoyed it and would love to partake in future events.."

"I have learnt so much about the formalities and structure of the conference- it has also increased my debate skills immensly."

"I've made so many friends from all over the country, some that share similar interests and some who don't. It's been a really enriching experience learning from each other."
