Our Merton Regional Finalist Toni A in Year 10 did exactly when she performed her speech "Africa in Three Words." at the Jack Petchey "Speak Out" Challenge Grand Final 2024 recently.
Toni's fantastic speech challenged misconceptions about Africa, and urged listeners to appreciate the continent's indispensable contributions, rich diversity, and inherent power. Her presentation emphasized the importance of recognising and valuing Africa's true essence beyond stereotypes and negativity.
Although Toni was not victorious in the Grand Final, we are very proud of our Regional Finalist for having the courage of her convictions and performing her speech twice on a main stage. A huge well done!

On a more sorrowful, yet relevant note, we were very saddened to hear of the recent passing of Sir Jack Petchey CBE (1925-2024), who did such an incredible amount of work with schools through his well known Jack Petchey Foundation. We thank him.
May he rest in peace.
Jack Petchey CBE (1925-2024)
