A great example of this in action, is our Friday Mocks for year 11. This term kicked off our series of Friday Mocks which will run until the start of the GCSE exams in May. This is a valuable exercise that gives our students as close to real expectations around sitting external exams, supports teaching staff to identify gaps and close these to support progress. This approach enables us to make sure that every student receives the right support in the build up to GCSEs and gives our students the experience of sitting regular practice papers under exam conditions. So, when the December Mocks and the official GCSEs come their way, out students won’t be phased at all (or less phased!).
Each week focuses on a different subject – so far students have sat Physics and Algebra exams, and this Friday it’s Chemistry’s turn, with English Literature making an appearance next week.
Now, this isn’t just about results and academic achievement, we care about our students’ well-being and taking this approach really works to keep worries at bay throughout the year and remove a lot of the big exam fear and anxiety that comes with the unknown. Another great example of our ethos and values in action.
