DofE Award

A big shout out to our Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award students – I am proud to say we have 63 students spending this year learning and developing new skills, culminating in the qualifying expedition in June.

The groups recently completed their practice expedition which comprised walking for 6 hours on both days whilst carrying a 65L rucksack and navigating their own directions using just a map and a compass. Students then were required to set up camp and cook their own meals without adult intervention! They were challenged and showed resilience, determination, commitment, and teamwork: they didn’t give up despite it raining solidly and some groups getting a little lost on day 2.

Well done all, what an achievement and a confidence boost as they approach the final months of volunteering, physical and skills work and their qualifying expedition in June. Keep going!

Thanks to the Merton DofE team, Mr Rushforth our DofE coordinator, volunteer helpers in Miss Clark and Mr Callaghan, and of course all our DofE families for their on-going support. The students couldn’t do it without you.
