Guidance For Applicants

All job offers at Ursuline High School, Wimbledon are subject to the following mandatory checks:

Eligibility to reside and work in the UK

If you are appointed, we will be required to verify your identity, eligibility and your date of birth to work in the UK.

This means that we will not be able to offer you employment if this would be in breach of the Immigration legislation.

In order to confirm eligibility to reside and work in the UK, newly appointed staff are required to provide original documents, copies of which are retained by the School. The full list of documents which can be used to evidence your right to work in the UK can be found here.

References satisfactory to the School

The purpose of a reference is to obtain information from a third party to provide a factual check on candidates’ potential suitability for a new role, as well as obtaining confirmation of their employment history, experience, general work performance.

References are an appropriate pre-employment vetting check for safeguarding purposes. Ursuline High School will require two references which are satisfactory to the School, one of the references must be from either an existing or most recent employer. The School reserves the right to contact any other organisation identified by you as a former employer, where it is deemed necessary.

Ursuline High School complies with the Equality Act of 2010 and will therefore only request information about your sickness absence data, if you have been offered the role or have been identified as the preferred candidate.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check, Prohibited List Check and EEA Check

All appointments at Ursuline High School are subject to a criminal record check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). All our staff are exempt from Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, therefore employment at Ursuline High School is subject to an ‘Enhanced’ DBS check which will include records on the Children’s Barred List.

It is also a statutory requirement that we carry out checks against the ‘Prohibition Order List’, the ‘Prohibition from Management List’ and the ‘EEA Sanction List’ which is maintained by the Department for Education and List 99.

If you are likely to start work at the school before your full DBS clearance has been received, we will carry out a DBS Risk Assessment as outlined in our policy.

If you are employed from overseas we will require a certificate of good conduct from the Police authority from your country of origin.

Medical Clearance

If you are offered employment, you will be required to complete a medical questionnaire which will be reviewed by our Occupational Health Service. This will enable the School to receive confirmation that you are fit to carry out the requirements of the role you have been appointed to and whether any reasonable adjustments would be required to enable you to perform all your duties.

Verification of Qualifications / Professional Registration

As part of your conditional offer of employment, you will also be required to provide the School with evidence of your professional qualifications and/or professional memberships.

This includes all professional, teaching, academic qualifications and professional memberships which have been identified as an ‘Essential’ requirement within the person specification for the role.

All individuals will be treated in a fair and equal manner and in accordance with the law regardless of gender, marital status, race, religion, colour, age, disability or sexual orientation.
