They worked in teams alongside industry experts to create a digital media campaign; Earthquake Rescue. Where there mission was to create an autonomous robot that can search though damaged buildings looking for victims of earthquakes. Students used pre-built Lego mindstorms EV3 robot and programmed it to search through damaged buildings and indicate when it has found a possible victim.
Working as coders, app designers, photographers and film makers to develop a product they presented back to each other at the end of the day. They created a website using Google sites that included videos and photos of the production process, interviews with the scientists creating the prototype and explanations and images of why the robot is needed.
This was fantastic opportunity to give our new students real insight into the world of work and experience of what it is like to work as part of a future technologist in a leading world City firm. Students had the chance to ask the professionals about their work and begun to understand the benefits and excitement of working with computers and gain inspiration for what they want to do in the future.
