Charity Begins At HomeStart!

Our Year 8 Philanthropists have been very busy fundraising for their chosen charities this past term or so and we were very pleased to hold our First Give Philanthropy Final on Friday 10th May in the school hall.

This year’s charities were: HomeStart UK, Lambeth and Southwark Mind, Momentum, Stem4, The Alzheimer’s Society, The Wimbledon Guild, React

Each form had the opportunity to present a pitch to judges on why the felt their charity was most deserving of the extra £1000 and what fundraising ideas they themselves had come up with to help raise the most money possible.

Congratulations to 8 Ursula, whose charity HomeStart UK was awarded the extra £1000! HomeStart UK is a local community network of trained volunteers and expert support helping families with young children through their challenging times.

Every team and charity was a winner however, as due to all of their hard work, over £1,700 was raised for the charities in total, a great achievement!

Well done girls!

Many thanks to the Mayor of Merton; Mary Curtin, First Give, our charity representatives and finally, our judges; Alice Debrowska – Head of Consultancy at Cranfield Trust, Katrina Frempong – UHS Sixth Form student who was on the winning team when she was in Year 8, Phillip Holt- former Air Traffic controller and International Speaker, Sophia Barnes- Former Primary School Business Manager.
