Work Experience

According to the Gatsby Benchmark, all students should experience encounters with employers and employees. Every student should have multiple opportunities to learn from employers about work, employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace.

Here at Ursuline High School, Wimbledon our students complete 2 weeks work experience in Year 11 and a further one week of Work Shadowing in Year 12. This is a great opportunity for students to not only explore different careers but help them make informed decisions about what steps to take next. It enables them to develop key workplace skills such as team work, communication and problem solving which are transferable in any career. It helps them to understand which skills they excel at and those which will need more work, if they are planning on pursuing a specific career.

By experiencing the world of work directly, this is the perfect opportunity to make contacts in the industry they are interested in. It often offers some enlightenment in terms of revealing the right career path. It gives students the opportunity to interact with people they have never met before in a professional manner and be exposed to the workplace and the world of work. A truly valuable and important part of their careers programme and learning within the school, giving our students first hand encounters which expand their knowledge and understanding of what the future may hold for them.
